Finnish Discount Airline Flies High with Help from New York Ad Agency

NEW YORK--Flying Finn , a new Helsinki based airline seeking to emulate the success of American discount airlines such as Southwest and Jet Blue, got off to a roaring start last month with the help of an online advertising campaign and a multilingual web site designed by New York advertising agency MZInc.

“On the first day Flying Finn was open, 40,000 people visited the website,” says MZInc. CEO Mira Zivkovic.“This bodes well for business at a time when a lot of traditional airlines are struggling to stay out of bankruptcy.” The company’s website is www.flyfi.net.

Flying Finn, which opened on March 16 with a flight from Helsinki to Rovaniemi, is making its mark with the “no-frills” approach made popular with US and European discount airlines. The airline offers the lowest fares to a number of locations. A flight to London from Helsinki is 98 euros, a trip to Stockholm is 68 euros. Booking flights online, available 24 hours a day is fast convenient and secure. It is a ticket-less airline. All you need to fly is your passport.

In addition to a strategically developed website with a strong marketing message, MZInc used strategically placed banner ads to relevant sites and found a very strong consumer interest in low cost airfares. The London and Stockholm flights are the first routes in what the company hopes will be a larger network of discount fares to other European cities. Among the investors in the airline is 4 times World Rally Champion, the Finnish rally driver Juha Kankkunen.
